In mid 80’s, the HK VW dealer Jebson installed very bad quality alternator & AC mounts on all VWs.
The alternator was badly mounted by a small screw on only 1 side. Thus, it always sat at a tilt position.
Almost all holes on the bracket was misaligned. You can find the close up of the holes on pictures below.
The A/C compress fastening was also poor, it vibrates all the time and leaked out all freon.
The pulley belts broken on every 2 years due to the poor alignment. VERY DANGEROUS !
This year, I said to myself “That’s enough!!”
Thanks to Pete, I have ordered a new FAW-VW Jetta alternator mount with A/C .
Very good price, just RMB110 !! 😀
Even that mount design was come from an A2, all screw holes and offset dimension perfectly fit my A1 ‘EX’ engine block. This can be observed on be the above picture. The one on left is the old one, the new one is on the right.
The A/C compressor used is a Japan made Saden 508, I have used a dummy compressor for fitting adjustment on below pictures.
The modification job still work in progress, I hope to finish it on September.
Very useful info from U. I think my ‘I’ will needed the same transplant as yours 😀
